Please Consider Honoring Those Who Died and Those Who Survived the Tragedy of April 16, 2007 by Purchasing the “In Remembrance April 16” License Plate.  When you do, you help those survivors and family members who formed the VTV Family Outreach Foundation assist other victims of campus tragedy, advocate for campus safety and create a legacy for those who died by purchasing an “In Remembrance April 16” license plate.

A minimum of 450 prepaid applications are required for the General Assembly to approve the plate pictured below. Once the Foundation has received orders for 1,000 plates, it will receive $15 for every plate sold and renewed. These funds will help the Foundation in its mission to promote and advocate for the public safety and security of our universities and colleges and to provide assistance and services to victims of campus crimes and their families.

Thank you for your generosity and support!

About The State of Virginia Tribute Plate  Application Process:

Please note that the proposed design is a prototype of a license plate that has not yet been formally approved by the General Assembly, the Governor or DMV. It may be subject to minor changes. The prototype of the plate will be submitted along with the bill to the General Assembly and Governor for approval in the 2011 session. In order for the General Assembly to review our request, we must submit 450 pre-paid license plate applications.

Click Here if you want to see what letter/number combinations are available by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles. You may elect DMV to select your 6 number and/or letter combination OR you may choose to personalize your plate. DMV collects $25 for non-personalized and $35 for personalized plates.

The disabled symbol is available for all special license plates, at no cost; it allows up to 5 number/letter combinations. Unfortunately, you cannot get a specialized plate for hybrid vehicles.

After the 450 pre-paid applications are collected with the requisite fees, they will be submitted along with the drafted bill to the General Assembly and Governor for approval. Once approved, they will be submitted to DMV.

The VTV Family Outreach Foundation meets the legislative requirements that it is 1) a 501c3 non-profit organization and 2) that it provides “ to the Commonwealth or its citizens a broad public service that is to be funded, in whole or in part, by the proposed revenue sharing special license plate authorization.”

VTV will return all applications and checks to prospective purchasers if it is unable to collect 450 prepaid applications and/or the license plate is not authorized by the General Assembly, Governor or DMV.

A portion of the fees may be tax deductible. VTV recommends that purchasers seek advice from their professional tax advisor or the Internal Revenue Service to determine eligibility.

Why VTV is Sponsoring This Effort:

The VTV Family Outreach Foundation is requesting these plates in order to honor those who died and who were wounded on April 16, 2007. We want the world to remember that the 32 individuals who died had an irreplaceable impact on those around them and that those who were injured continue to give of themselves through their work and their service.

We also recognize that these plates are revenue sharing. The VTV Family Outreach Foundation will collect $15 for every plate that is sold or renewed after the initial 1,000 are sold. We will use these funds to implement the many projects and programs we are organizing and forming.

If you are a Virginia citizen with an active registration and you would like an “IN REMEMBRANCE, April 16, 2007” plate, you need to fill out the License Plate Application and pay the $25 annual fee.

All monies collected will be in a special non-interest bearing account. If VTV does not reach the requisite number of applications OR if the General Assembly and/or Governor deny our request, all collected fees and applications will be returned.
